Members of ADHOC and other organizations, even a United Nations staff member in Phnom Penh, were accused by of a young woman of telling her to lie to government officials regarding her involvement with a CNRP official. For still unexplained reasons, the Anti-Terrorism Police and the ACU conducted long extensive interrogations and investigations of taped telephone conversations , as yet not clearly shown to be legal or authentic, into the private affair and then detained and arrested the civil society members. Human Rights Watch and 50 civil society groups have condemned the government's actions as blatantly politically motivated and unjustified. After days of questioning, the ACU sent the 5 accused to the Municipal court, where they were questioned into the evening for several days and then charged, denied bail and sent to prison for up to six month while awaiting trial.Read More
